UCI WP-3D TOGA COARE Data Access (UNIX-compressed ASCII files)
There have been several changes and updates to the UCI-processed WP-3D
data since its initial availability announced on February 9th, 1995.
If you are using the UCI WP-3D data which are dated previous to March
8, 1997 it is highly recommended that you re-obtain
these data.
- For general information view the UCI WP-3D processing documentation. This
documentation is valid with the following exceptions:
- Reprocessing on January 22, 1996:
- Recalculated aircraft vertical velocity without using the baro-loop (s_vzi1c & s_vzi2c).
- Recalculated the vertical wind (using the recalculated vertical velocity) .
- Switched the dome and case temperatures for the Pyrgeometers - recalculated these temperatures.
- Dome and case temperatures for the Pyrgeometers used to calculate the incoming & outgoing longwave radiation.
- Reprocessing on March 12, 1996:
- Introduced the revised
empirical offsets for ambient temperature, and dewpoint temperature.
- Recalculated all thermodynamic variables and winds using these new offsets.
- Reprocessing on March 8, 1997:
- Include prt5 voltage data and calibration coefficients.
- Include static pressure defect data.
- Recalibrated the Lyman-alpha to account for a 2 second time lag in the chilled-mirror dewpoint data.
- Recalibrated angle of attack -- to find a new vertical wind velocity (on N43RF).
- Recalculated all thermodynamic variables and winds using new offsets (slightly different than the values used
in the March 12, 1996 version).
- Reprocessing on July 8, 1997:
- Recalibrated angle of attack -- recalculated vertical wind velocity.
- Reprocessing on November 24, 1997:
- Recalculated "GPS-correction" of ine1/ine2 position. This
will effect s_lati1c, s_longi1c, s_lati2c, s_longi2c. All
other parameters are unchanged.
- Updated the offset for pqr. Calculated s_pqrc.
- Reprocessing on January 15, 1998:
- Reduced the total temperature offset on both P-3s by 0.3C. I.E., For
N42R the offset for ttf2 is now 0 (previously it was +0.3C) and for N43RF
the offset (also ttf2) is -0.15C (before it was +0.15) -- recalculated all
thermodynamic parameters and winds.
- TOGA COARE Aircraft Validation Data Table (PostScript): A table of test
data for each aircraft involved in TOGA COARE. This table can be used for data validation of any TOGA COARE aircraft data. (UPDATED: March 1, 1998)
- TOGA COARE Aircraft Offset Table (PostScript): A table of the
offset values on each flight date for each aircraft involved in TOGA COARE. This table shows the offsets
used to create the TOGA COARE Aircraft Validation Data Table. (UPDATED: March 1, 1998)
- Time Series Plots of selected variables of WP-3D data from all TOGA COARE flights.
